UNPLUG and TUNE IN. Research has revealed that even the mere presence of a smart phone, tablet, or other electronic device, turned on or not, negatively impacts communication and connection in a relationship. Our brains have become so dependent on technology, that we tend to unintentionally choose our phones over our spouse or friends. I’ve observed, many times, two people texting or facebooking each other, while sitting in the same room. When God said, “It’s not good for man to be alone,” He did not give him a smart phone. Make a point to do activities with your spouse, kids, or friends, where your phone is not only shut off, but outside your proximity as well. Since your brain can only focus on one thing at a time, make sure you’re choosing the right thing (Romans 8:6).
Romans 8:6 ESV: For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
