We tend to tell each other who we AREN’T, instead of who we ARE. Unfortunately, it is more common for us to tear each other down, than to build one another up. We say things like, “Wow, you really aren’t that good at…”or “You aren’t good enough to…”or “You aren’t attractive enough for…” Whether we say these things verbally, or with our actions, the message is the same. Since research shows that it takes 10-15 Positive Comments to make up for One Negative, every time you tell someone who, or what, they are not, you are hindering their ability to become who they are supposed to be.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV: Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
